Thomas Willeboirts Bosschaert. Painted in or after c. 1646.

Thomas Willeboirts Bosschaert (1614 - 1654). The apotheosis of the Virgin, c. 1640. The Virgin Mary is being crowned by the Christ Child with a garland of flowers. Angels sing and make music as they take par t in this tribute. Willeboirts Bosschaert has portrayed the scene in warm tones and with a lively brush. The artist was a pupil of Gerard Seghers; he worked in the ateliers of Rubens en Van Dyck and was one of the artists involved in the decoration of the Oranjezaal. Frederik Hendrik and Amalia van Solms owned dozens of such history pieces by Bosschaert.
