Portrait of Robert Muys and Maria Nozeman — Nicolaes Muys
Nicolaes Muys. Painted 1778.
Maria Nozeman plies needle and thread with the silver thimble on her middle finger. On the table next to her is a costly and fashionable silver tea urn and an open book. Robert Muys, her husband and the painter’s brother, holds up one of his own prints. The open door behind them offers a glimpse into his studio. The screen in front of the window allowed engravers to filter the incoming light.
