Portrait of Louis Royer (1793-1868). Scupltor — Charles van Beveren
Charles van Beveren. Painted 1830.
The couple Louis Royer and Carolina Kerst were captured in a portrait after their return from a yearlong sojourn in Rome. Louis is seen in his sculptor’s studio surrounded by his work, some of which is on view in this gallery. One of his sculptures is visible in Carolina’s likeness. A letter and an Italian landscape allude to their Italian trip and the cross around her neck signifies her Catholic faith.
