Portrait of Leonardus van der Voort — Johan Bernard Scheffer
Johan Bernard Scheffer. Painted 1799.
Leonardus van der Voort was one of Holland’s delegates to the National Assembly. He holds the draft of the Constitution of the Batavian Republic of 1796, a forerunner of the first Constitution of 1798. He wears the sash donned by all of the people’s delegates. As far as is known, this is the only painted portrait of a member of the National Assembly.
