Fluffy Flowers in a Jug — Willem Witsen
Willem Witsen. Painted c. 1916.
Witsen convincingly rendered the brilliant light reflection on the shiny earthenware jug with only a few touches of white paint, while the woolly grass and fern leaves appear soft and cuddly. Witsen began painting still lifes, like this one, when his cityscapes and landscapes found fewer buyers after the outbreak of World War i.
