Corner of a Garden with Nasturtiums — Richard Nicolaüs Roland Holst
Richard Nicolaüs Roland Holst. Painted 1891.
Unlike the early 19th-century works in the adjacent display cases, this painting does not show a landscape but rather an impression of nature. In the late 19th century, some painters sought more personal ways of depicting nature. They turned their attention to an intimate landscape, namely the garden. Gardens were associated with well-being and constituted a safe place.
