Young Woman at a Cradle — Nicolaes Maes
Nicolaes Maes. Painted 1652 - 1662.
Has the baby fallen asleep yet? A woman carefully lifts the cloth draped over the cradle. Her book of verses rests in her lap. The fall of light and warm red hues of the blanket draw attention to the woman with her child. Maes heightened the intimacy of this scene by incorporating a drawn-back curtain at the right.
