The Dollhouse of Petronella Oortman (1655/56-1716) — Jacob Appel
Jacob Appel. Painted c. 1710.
This doll’s house was so expensive that a painting was made of it. In assembling a doll’s house, wealthy ladies showed the ideal version of a Dutch household. This included a Black servant, seen in the left room on the middle floor. All of the original dolls have been lost, except for a baby in a cradle.
