W.J. Ploy (attributed), 1663. Johannes van Rees (1662 - 1690/91), half-brother of Elisabeth van Oosten, as a child. Oil on canvas. This portrait is traditionally assumed to show a member of the Van Riebeeck family. Jan van Riebeeck (1619 - 1677) arrived at Cape of Good Hope in 1652 and established a supply base for VOC ships sailing to Batavia (Jakarta). The actual identity of the subject is not certain.
