The daughters are standing beside their mother, also oldest to youngest. Their ages are written above their heads. Pierre de Moucheron and his equally enterprising sons were active at the start of the Dutch Golden Age. Pierre founded a dynasty of Protestant merchants and ship owners. He ran a trading company in Antwerp. When the city fell to Spain in 1585, the firm moved to Middelburg.
