Jan Lievens (1607 - 1674). Old woman r eading, c. 1627. Between 1625 and 1630 Lievens worked closely with his friend Rembrandt. They were constantly trying to outdo each other, but each was always ready to borrow the other's new techniques. This painting by Lievens bears a close resemblance to Rembrandt's work dating from the same period. Purchased in 1978.
