Mounted Trumpeter Taking a Drink — Karel du Jardin
Karel du Jardin. Painted 1650 - 1660.
Karel du Jardin favoured this kind of sun-drenched outdoor inn scene. The horseman has slung his trumpet over his shoulder. Judging by his red nose, he likes a drink. He quenches his thirst while the female innkeeper looks at him impassively. The grey horse will have to wait its turn: a boy is busy pouring a basket of feed for it into the trough.
