Morning Visit — Adriaan de Lelie
Adriaan de Lelie. Painted 1796.
The greengrocer has delivered his produce and before moving on has a chat with the maidservant. De Lelie painted this old Dutch kitchen scene in the tradition of 17th-century genre painting. He was interested in rendering the various details as faithfully as possible: the baskets of vegetables, the earthenware jug, the pewterware on the fireplace mantel and the brassutensils against the white tiles.
