The French army at Rheinberg, 2-6 June 1672. Attributed to Lambert de Hondt II, 1672. The French troops encountered little resistance in their advance. In June 1672 Marshal Turenne captured the fortress of Rijnberk (Rheinberg). The artist Lambert de Hondt, who worked in Brussels, took commissions for paintings of military scenes. He also made designs for tapestries of battle scenes.
