Hondecoeter enlivened his bird paintings with little vignettes. Here the focus is on the hen taking care for her chicks, surrounded by large and intimidating birds.

From the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Currently on display in King Stadtholder William III and Mary Stuart / Delftware, Main building, 17th Century.
